How does a battery work?

A battery stores electricity for future use . As the battery discharges , the lead plates are increasingly similar , the acid becomes weaker , and the tension decreases. Eventually , the battery is discharged as it can no longer supply power to a useful voltage .

Size of battery – battery size that best fits the physical dimensions of your vehicle. In many vehicles can be fitted over the battery size .
Current Choke (CCA ) – The current cold start is essential to have a good start capability . Is the number of amps a battery can support for 30 seconds at a temperature of 0  F before its voltage drops to unusable levels.
Reserve Capacity – It helps to power the electrical system of your vehicle if the alternator fails. Identifies for how many minutes a battery can deliver enough energy without falling below the minimum voltage to run your vehicle.

In general, both for the current cold start to the reserve capacity , the higher this value is , the better. However, if you live in a cold climate, cold starting current is very important when choosing a battery aspect . Conversely , if you live in a warm climate , you do not need much power cold start .

The type of equipment to be nurtured
The amount of amps required to operate the equipment

Can I do some preventive maintenance on my battery?

Should periodically review the cleaning of the battery. Keep the poles and connections free of dirt and corrosion cells. Corrosion at the poles can affect battery performance, generating a security risk.

If corrosion is found, remove the battery, unplug and remove the connectors, and remove any corrosion brushing poles and connectors with a dilute solution of sodium bicarbonate and water. Re-apply antioxidant grease before reconnecting and plug connections. Always keep an adequate record.

What the C5, C20 and C100 codes mean in lead acid batteries?

A battery of 100 Ah C100 can give 1 Amp for 100 hours until discharge.

A battery of 100 Ah C20 can give 5 amps for 20 hours until discharge.

A battery of 100 Ah C5 can give 20 Amps for 5 hours until discharge.

The C100 20 Amp battery will not last long .
The C20 with 20 Amp battery will last longer than the C100 .
The C5 with 20 Amp battery will last longer than C20 .

The difference between these three types of battery is the speed that can convert stored chemical energy into electrical energy or energy stored in electrolyte , C5 is the best and most efficient , C20 is not as optimal as the C5 and C100 is less efficient.

” C ” is the total efficiency of the electrolysis and the structure of the battery is the battery capacity : 5, 20 and 100 is the number of hours it takes to drain the battery .

Why not start my car?

If the battery can not start your car, they say it is “dead ” , although this term is not technically correct . A battery is simply discharged ( the headlights have been switched on, or because they have spoiled an alternator ) can be recharged up to its full capacity. Visual inspection

  • The container or cover signs of mechanical stress , damage or high temperatures.
  • The ends of the battery project outwardly , thus indicating an increase of the plates

How is a vehicle starts with a bridge?

These instructions are designed to minimize the risk of explosion. Keep the battery at all times away from sparks, flames and cigarettes.

  • Both batteries must have the same voltage (6 V, 12 V , etc. . ) .
  • When bypass a battery , always wear safety goggles , and never lean over the battery.
  • Do not bridge a bad battery , before connecting the cables , inspect both batteries.
  • Ensure that vent caps are tight and level.
  • Ensure that vehicles are not touching , and that the two power contacts are in the off position.
  • Turn off all electrical appliances (radio, fan, wipers , lights, etc. . )

The steps below should be followed exactly.

  • Connect the positive (+) cable to the positive (+) terminal of the discharged battery .
  • Connect the other end of the positive (+) cable to the positive ( +) battery of the wizard .
  • Connect the negative (-) cable to the negative ( -) battery of assistant .
  • Finally connect the negative (-) cable to the engine block of the disabled vehicle , away from the battery and the carburetor.
  • Make sure the wires are not in contact with the fan blades , belts or other moving engine parts .
  • Start vehicle and remove cables in REVERSE as to connect.
